When the dong system took effect in 1966, Oeongchi-ri and Naemulchi-ri were merged into Daepo-ri to form Daepo-dong, Sang-, Jung- and Ha-Domun-ri were merged into Domun-dong, and Janghang-ri was renamed Seorak-dong. On 1983.2.15, Sangbok 2-ri of Ganghyeon-myeon, Yangyang County, was incorporated into Seorak-dong. In the dong merger of 1998.10.17, Daepo, Domun and Seorak were combined into Daepo-dong. It covers 62.6% of the city's total area.
