When the dong system took effect in 1966, Nori, Doriwon-ri, Imok-ri, Cheoksan-ri and Sinheung-ri were combined and named Nohak-dong ("No" from Nori and "Hak" from Haksapyeong in Cheoksan-ri). Nori was split into 4 ri in 1942, and Sinheung-ri was formed by settlers in 1962. In the dong merger of 1998.10.17, it absorbed part of the former Gyo-dong and became a mixed urban-rural administrative dong.
