Geumho-dong

1942: Sokcho-ri 4-gu, Sokcho-eup (including Geumho, Cheonghak and Gyo-dong); 1954: Sokcho-ri 6-gu; with Sokcho's elevation to city status in 1963, Sokcho-ri 4-gu; when the dong system took effect on 1966.1.1, it became Jungang-dong and Geumho-dong. In the merger of small dongs on 1998.10.17, the former Jungang-dong office was kept and the name Geumho-dong was adopted. The name reflects the idea that the scenery of the two lakes, Yeongnangho and Cheongchoho, seems to echo with the sound of a geomungo zither (琴).
